About our Mount Board

Which is the best Mount Board Colour to use?

Our preferred very best standard high-quality mount board is called "Minuet" it is a very slightly yellow off-white colour, very close to the colour of most of the ivory I have ever seen but without any of the flecks of black and not so yellow as the mount board that is called "Ivory" (sorry!). It has very little grey in it and is not noticeably tinted red, blue or green. This makes it ideal for mounting pictures, but not very easy to show you on a computer screen what it's going to look like! We think the best computer colour to replicate this is RGB 254,253,231 or, for those of you with computer code in mind, Hex FEFDE7.

Specification of our Mount Board

At Room4art  we buy our Mount Board from Arqadia, using their "Conservation" and "White Core" grades only. You might want to know their specification for the board we use:

The surface and backing papers

  • Made from chemically-treated pulp using pH sizing and lignin-free, except for Metallics which are not acid-free.
  • Blue wool scale (BWS) minimum rating 3+
  • Individual BWS ratings are marked on the reverse side of every sheet.
  • Buffered with calcium carbonate. (Minimum 3% by weight)
  • The water-soluble extracts are minimal i.e. chloride below 0.05%, sulphate below 0.25%. For extra defence it contains a buffer of calcium carbonate to guard against contamination by air-borne acid for the life of the board.
