Glossary: Yellowing of oil paintings

Paintings often take on a slightly yellow appearance and this is due to a number of reasons. The first is by putting too much linseed oil into the paint;the second is using a varnish such as copal and thirdly an accumulation of dirt embedded in the varnish.
