Glossary: How to measure a painting

Paintings are measured height before width so that if the first number you see is larger than the second then you know you are looking at a portrait shaped painting rather than a landscape shape. At Room4art.com™ we have measured the largest possible surface area that can be exposed after framing with a mount if a watercolour/print or a frame and slip if an oil. By necessity, some small element of the picture must be lost under the mount of the watercolour or the rebate of the oil frame.

At Room4art.com™ we belive it is vital for our customers to understand all details of the methods and practises of picture framing which includes how art is measured.
