Glossary: Cartoons

In the fine art world the term "cartoon" is correctly used to describe a preliminary drawing or series of drawings for a larger painting, often one so large (a fresco or wall painting) that a working design is not otherwise easy. Today we tend to associate the term with newspapers and magazines, in which a cartoon is often a topical or humorous exaggeration of some feature or event.
