Glossary: Collage

This is a technique for producing a painting by the application of materials in layers on a prepared surface. The material most commonly used is coloured or painted papers. Other materials such as cloth, wood, sand and other paintings are also used. The cubists were  early exponents of the technique as were the Dada and Surrealist movements in later years.
