Glossary: Composition

This refers to the arrangement of all the elements of a painting or drawing by an artist. The composition of a picture is vital if it is to work and look a finished painting. All styles of painting require composition including abstracts. A series of random lines and shapes looks appalling, but a perfectly composed abstract looks wonderful
