Glossary: Georgian ArtThis period runs roughly from the early 1700's to the sucsession of Victoria. It was a period of art that had a very classical base and a a defined set of ground rules as to how a picture was to be constructed. There were of course exceptions to the rule. J M W Turner, arguably the first impressionist painter, was the first to move the artisic "goalpost's", his work displaying innovation through the use of light and colour. |
