Glossary: FrescoThis is a painting technique where a colour wash is applied to a damp plaster wall. The paint pigments are first dispersed in water to form a suspension. Once applied the plaster becomes the binding agent as well as it's support. Fresco painting was very popular in the renaissance and many fine examples remain to this day showing how strong a medium it is and how little it fades. See also mural painting |
