Glossary: Gouache

A watercolour medium which is mixed with finely ground white pigment (Chinese white) to provide an opaque paint The paint sits on the surface of the paper as opposed to watercolour where the paint becomes part of the paper. It is a more robust medium than watercolour and can be laid on thickly to give impasto to the surface
