Glossary: Modern Art

It is hard to be precise about when the term Modern Art came into existence but around the turn of the 19th/20th C. is closest. It followed through until the mid-1950's, when Pop art ushered in what is referred to as the post-modern period in art. Modern art is generally characterized by formal experimentation and exploration of subjects and mediums.
