The Magi surround the infant Jesus and Mary in the stables The gouache provides wonderful contrast between the radiant light from behind Mary and the blue of her cloak. The composition is well constructed with the figures rising in height to the rear of the work. This work was produced while the artist was a pupil at the Royal Academy School of art in London in the 1920's and early 30's.

| About the artist
Born: 1910
Watercolour and oil painter. Born 1911 into a farming family. She studied art at the Royal Academy School of Art in the early 1930's. After graduating she earned her living illustrating children's books prior to the war. In the 1950's she turned to portrait painting, exhibiting regularly in London. Her work is delicate and very English with a strong sense of colour and design
