Victorian 4 storey town house with shop in Alford Lincolnshire A lovely painting in a watercolour of a large Victorian building in Alford. It is a fine picture executed in subdued tones over a pencil outline with a thin detailing of pen and ink to highlight the architectural forms. This was a rapidly painted work using broad brush strokes and broken colour to indicate the tonal variations on the buildings. If you study the picture using the zoom facility, you will see how the paint has been controlled by reducing the amount of water used. This allows the artist to paint within fixed boundaries, avoiding blending of colour where not necessary. This picture has been stored in a portfolio for 60 years and we are confidant that these are the original colours painted and that there is virtually no fading. A fascinating social record of the late 1940's and 50's for anyone living in Alford. Does anyone remember the ladies and gents hairdressers and "Fenners cosmetics"?

| About the artist
Born: 1924
Died: 2004
Noel Brannan was a pupil of the Lincoln College of art. He was fortunate that his father was a Professional artist and taught his son from an early age. After working for the Admiralty he became an art teacher, exhibiting widely , including the Royal academy. His work was included in the influential Book of the early 1950's "Artist's of fame and promise.
