This fine watercolour was sketched on the spot and has a great immediacy. The work was produced rapidly in watercolour to record a moment in time. Note the figures milling around the aircraft and then those sitting around watching them work. Not much changes.

Arthur Goodwin was station in the far east during the 2nd World War. This was one of a number of paintings he produced recording his time in the air force and the war in general. The planes do not look British and are probably American. If anyone can shed any light on where this might be or what the aircraft are please contact us.

Arthur Goodwin was born in 1922 and attended the Royal College of art. His studies were interrupted by the war when he served with the RAF in the far east. On his return he became a teacher and exhibited widely in London and the provinces. He died in 1998
