A Birmingham tram conductor wears with pride his ticket punching machine and his tram conductors hat A fine portrait etching of Mr. Everett a tram conductor. The body is sketched in very loosely thereby concentrating on the facial features. The technique, first used by Gerald Leslie Brockhurst and typical of etchings produced in the 1930s by British etchers, places the emphasis of the work on the head and face of the sitter and not the body. Here we have magnificent shading and toning around the sitters face in contrast to the minimal lined work to the body.
