A railway bridge with a train passing over in Blackpool

A fine watercolour of a railway bridge over a road with a train passing in Blackpool. It is a lovely picture executed in muted tones over a feint drawn outline with a thin detailing of pen and ink to highlight the architectural forms. This was a rapidly painted work using broad brush strokes and a dry brush thereby allowing the underlying paper to show through and produce the white areas. If you study the picture using the zoom facility, you will see how the artist has used pen and ink to superb effect to indicate shadows under the bridge. This picture has been stored in a portfolio for 60 years, we are reasonably confidant that these are the original colours painted and that there is virtually no fading. The bridge has a large advert for Magee's crown ale, a now defunct brewery company from Bolton. This is a fine record of life in 1940's Britain when people queued at the bus stop and car ownership was rare.
