Street scene in Blackpool Lancashire with a narrow alleyway and cobbled roar Fine watercolour of the back streets of Blackpool in 1947. The picture was sketched out in pen and ink, then painted over with watercolour. On top of this is added more ink to highlight the architectural features and other details such as the cobbles. The colour has been applied rapidly with broad brush strokes controlling the paint flow thereby reducing the merging at the margins of different features. By using the zoom facility, you can see how the artist has worked from light to dark in the sky using gradations of colour to build up the clouds. This work has been stored in a portfolio for 60 years, and looks fresh as the day it was painted with little or no fading.
