3 Ladies in conversation at a table

A charming painting in a impressionist manner with a sparing use of paint to achieve the rapid effect of movement and form. It is a painting that had to be captured in an instant, on the spot, as the subjects were all to likely to get up and leave! A magnificent work

Barbara saw this group of ladies chatting at an adjoining table in Santa Fey. She says "The subject was too good to miss"

About the artist

Born: 1911

Died: 2010

Barbara studied at the Royal Academy schools in the early 1930's and won the silver medal for drawing. On leaving the Academy she worked as a portrait painter. After the war she specialised in landscape painting and continued to accept portrait commissions.

She always took a keen interest in nature with her family friends included George Edward Lodge and Lionel Edwards, the great wildlife artists of the 20th century. Both these painters encouraged her to paint in the Scottish Highlands and sketch nature as she observed it.

She exhibited widely and had many one woman exhibitions around the world. Her work is in many private and public collections. Notable exhibitions have included "Views of London and Paris". In 2004 her work was shown at the Burlington House Gallery in Piccadilly.

Barbara died in 2010. She painted up to 2009 and was delighted that her last major work, an oil painting of Glen Coe, was so well received. Sadly she had to give up golf at 94, far to early for her liking.
