A range of farm buildings by a river with a farm cart and chickens Very fine etching of a range of farm buildings by a tranquil river. The work was produced from a prepared copper plate that the artist carried until he found the right scene. He then worked the waxed plate on the spot, taking it back to the studio for printing. This work displays finely observed detail produced by hatching and tonal variation to indicate shadows and dark passages of the picture. The etching is initialled in the plate and has full margins.

| About the artist
Born: 1888
Died: 1964
Brannan was a wonderful draughtsman who sketched his native Lincolnshire. He studied at the Lincoln School of art and was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. His work is in the Usher Gallery in Lincoln and many private collections. His two sons Noel, and Peter were both professional painters.
