A watercolour full of life and movement as a group of people wait and talk. The artist has drawn the scene and then washed over passages with a monochrome wash to indicate shadowing and form. A very rapid sketch that captures the movement of the people

This is a preparatory sketch for a later oil painting showing visitors to a theatre. It was one of his favourite subject matter, the interaction of people on the move and in conversation.

About the artist

Born: 1926

Died: 1994

Peter Brannan was trained at the Leicester school of art and went on to become an exiting innovative figure painter. He was a member of the Royal Society of British artists and the Lincolnshire society of artists. A retrospective of his work was held at the Goldmark Gallery. He was a regular contributor to magazines of articles on fellow artists. A well loved man but very private.
