The side of a public house in Bath advertising Fussell's Ales Lovely watercolour of an as yet unidentified public house in Bath. The picture was sketched out in watercolour with applied pen and ink detailing over to accentuate the structural details. Broad brush strokes and muted colours have been applied on to David Cox paper, which has a coarse texture with imperfections allowing the paper to be unpainted but still give detail. The paint has been applied rapidly but using a fairly dry brush to avoid merging at the margins where colours meet. given that the work has been stored in a portfolio for 60 years, we are reasonably sure that these are the original colours painted. Fussell's was a brewery operating from Rode in Somerset. The company is sadly defunct and we are uncertain to the history of the pub today.
