Factory and ancillary buildings of J Paul and Sons building and public works contractors Splendid watercolour of the factory and buildings of J Paul & sons. This watercolour wash drawing was executed on the spot using a drawn pencil base over which colour was applied and then highlighted with Indian ink. Very subtle amounts of Chinese white have been added to the paint in a few places giving an opaque feel to passages of the picture. The shading of the foliage and trees in the foreground is very effective giving a slightly Mediterranean feel, something a little incongruous for Leicestershire! This painting has been stored in a portfolio away from light for over 25 years and we are confidant that these are the original colours painted by the artist. J Paul and sons appear to be no more but they are recorded as having been the contractors for a new Salvation army hostel in Hinckley in 1930.
