Boats docked and out of the water at Leith harbour with cranes and buildings to the rear
Magnificent and powerful painting of Leith harbour in 1945. This expressionist gem was painted on the spot using a brush and black Indian ink. Lots of raw colour is used with just a little use of dragging to indicate reflections on the water. Such a bold painting and very un-british in it's style, it was stored away in a portfolio for over 60 years leaving it as fresh today as when it was painted. Leith harbour has changed dramatically since this painting was executed and is now a very fashionable watering hole for Edinburgh folk.
Painted while the artist was resident in Edinburgh
