Interior of the Lime Kilns public house with table benches and stools- floral curtains adorn the window on the garden This lovely interior watercolour of the Lime kilns public house shows a small "snug" with table and stools. A drawn pen outline has been washed over and then further highlighted with ink to highlight the features of the interior. The artist has used light shades of green and brown to produce a cheerful fresh scene. This picture was stored in a portfolio for over 50 years and is as fresh now as the day it was painted showing no signs of fading or discolouration. The ‘Lime Kilns’ is situated beside the Ashby Canal, where the main A5 Watling Street crosses over on bridge 15. Originally called ‘The Plough’, it was built prior to the canal, being one of the coaching inns for travellers between London and Holyhead. Is it still as charming inside? Please let us know.
