Georgian town house adjoining a medieval building and a phone box in Lincoln Lovely watercolour of a fine 4 storey Georgian town house in the centre of Lincoln adjoining a medieval timbered building. This painting was produced by laying a wash of watercolour over a drawn pencil base with a later application of ink lines to highlight the shapes and architectural forms. The paint has been used in a very controlled manner to avoid excess blending on the margins thereby retaining the integrity of individual features. In this work the leaden colour of the sky contrasts magnificently with the redbrick work of the Georgian house This picture was stored in a portfolio for nearly 60 years and is as fresh now as the day it was painted showing no signs of fading or discolouration. The incongruity of the modern red phone box in close proximity to these buildings did not escape the artist and adds weight to this fine and historic painting.
