The artist has captured the intense nature of travel on a railway system 40 years ago. People are seated in uncomfortable chairs, cheek by jowl (although 2 seats appear to have been recently vacated) and probably very little in the way of refreshments. Oh Dear.

Neville Bertram was a sculptor and painter who was trained in Liverpool by the eminent sculptor/artist Tyson Smith. He exhibited at the R.A. etc and his work is in collections around the world. He produced a series of woodblock prints in the 1950's.
