Houses on the banks of the Tyne the fishing fleet is moored up against the dock a rowing boat moves across the water Beautiful atmospheric etching of old North Shields and the Tyne. The work was produced from an incised copper plate that has been inked and printed in a press. We would refer you to the Glossary for a detailed description of the process of etching. The work is full of finely observed detail with hatching and tone to indicate shadows on the buildings. The work has full margins and is monogrammed in the plate and then signed in pencil below the plate mark. Note the etched outline of the clouds, simple but very effective. Executed while the artist was resident in Northumberland.
