Men relax On the deck of the ship taking them home from war

This drawing in all its simplicity conveys time hanging heavily as the men are transported back to England. The war is over, there is the excitement of coming home alive and well, but the journey time must have seemed so long.

This drawing was executed while on board ship returning from Italy at the end of the war in 1945. It is one of a number of works undertaken and is a record of daily life on board ship having survived the horrors of the war.
