Fine Lithograph of great technical excellence. Although the work is specifically of Paul Verlaine (Usher In Private School At Bournemouth, 1877-1878), Beerbohm captures the individual students' facial expressions magnificently.
Max Beerbohm was one of the masters of Lithography of the late 19th and early 20th century. He applied his own incisive brand of humour and wit to often dour subjects. The pre Raphaelites were always one of his favourite targets. See the Tate Gallery collection online for more examples
