Study of a reclining figure holding her leg
This painting is representational of the work produced by Matisse in the 1930s and forties. he was then at his most minimal when he had reduced in the human form to blocks of colour. This picture pays homage to his work and is a fine example with strong colour and design.
Matisse's last years were spent on refining his technique and the clarity of his work was never finer.
