Native boat under sail in the South Sea Islands dedicated Voor Marietje

Almost certainly from his travels to the south sea islands (Java, Bali and the Malay Archipelago) in the 1920’s and his recordings of what he encountered. Signed and inscribed. Good quality etching in a naive manner. We are unable to establish who Marietje was. The work has a slight crease

Jan Poortenaar travelled to Java and Bali in the 1920s and wrote a book entitled "An artist in the tropics of Java & beyond" describing the rich cultural mix of Indonesia at the end of the colonial period, with a forward by F Brangwyn.
