A rocky coastline with a sandy beach and a heavy swell A lovely watercolour of a sandy beach with a rocky outcrop. A beautifully painted and observed picture from nature. This was produced on the spot with a travelling artists paint box and ready stretched paper. The paper would have been dampened to allow the washes to run at the margins giving a blending of colours. Observe how the artist has used white unpainted areas of the picture to denote the white plumes and spray of the rough sea.
