A very fine study of lions in various poses in black chalks by Virginia Venning. This work was produced in the late 1920's. Virginia went on to become a renowned 20th century sculptress.

This work was produced at the London zoo by Virginia Venning while a student at the Royal Academy schools. They were regularly sent to the zoo as it provided a fantastic amount of living creatures.

About the artist

Born: 1911

Virginia Venning was born in 1913 and educated at The Royal Academy schools in the early 1930's. She won many prizes for her works and became a sculptor of high renown. She exhibited at the Royal academy and the Royal Society of British Sculptors. Her fine drawings of animals were all executed at London zoo in the early 1930's.
