Fine etching of the ruins of Tynemouth priory and gravestones. This picture was produced on the spot from a prepared copper plate that was etched and taken back to the studio for printing. We would refer you to the Glossary for a detailed description of the process of etching. A fine work with extensive hatching giving good shadows and light. The work is initialled in the plate and signed in pencil below the plate mark.

Executed while the artist was resident in Northumberland.

About the artist

Born: 1888

Died: 1964

Brannan was a wonderful draughtsman who sketched his native Lincolnshire. He studied at the Lincoln School of art and was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. His work is in the Usher Gallery in Lincoln and many private collections. His two sons Noel, and Peter were both professional painters.
