A sailing boat moored by a pier on the river Tyne with a figure in a rowing boat
A fine etching of the river Tyne with a small dock moored to which is a sailing vessel. The work was produced from a prepared copper plate that had been waxed ready for use. It was etched on the spot and taken back to the studio for printing in a press at a later time. We would refer you to the Glossary for a detailed description of the process of etching. The work is full of richly observed detail producing a wonderfully atmospheric scene as a result of hatching and tonal variation. A lovely work of an historic scene. The picture is signed in pencil beneath the plate mark and has full margins.
Executed while the artist was resident in Northumberland.
