Item number 1739
A view into North Shields harbour with the pier and the high and low lighthouses This picture was produced on the spot from a prepared copper plate that was etched and taken back to the studio for printing. We would refer you to the Glossary for a detailed description of the process of etching. It's a very fine but simple linear etching with an economy of single strokes of the etchers burin to indicate the sky and the horizon. A lovely etching of an historic scene. The work is monogrammed in the plate and signed in pencil in the margin Executed while the artist was resident in Northumberland.
