working windmill and houses in a part of Lincolnshire Fine watercolour of a working windmill with adjoining houses and buildings. This painting is an top quality example of the art of water colouring. It has been produced on the spot or 'plein air' with the artist recording the scene from nature. The paint has been applied directly on to the paper using a wet solution of paint. He has also washed his paper over with a film of water to achieve what is known as wet on wet. This allows him to add layers of colour, thereby building up a painting of great tonal variations. By using this technique colours run at the margins and blend into the surrounding areas. The windmill looks quite large in relation to the houses and therefore may be easy to identify. Any information as to the location would be appreciated.
